Seeking Advice for Current Situation

I'm a second year student in Canada who goes to what would be considered a semi-target in Canada (with a path to a top target for years 4&5, Richard Ivey). I had originally planed on pursuing Ivey in years 3 & 4 but I had weak extra credits for my application, as a result I've decided to go on an exchange to Barcelona for 3rd year and apply for Ivey for years 4 & 5.

I plan on heavily developing my network and getting involved in various activities over the summer. However, the exchange goes from September to July of next year, preventing me from being able to take any internship (at least in Canada) for my 3rd year summer. I was wondering how big of an issue this would become in the future. I'm confident I'll be able to secure an internship for my 4th year summer (going into 5th undergrad year) if I get accepted to Ivey. However I'm worried about my opportunities if I don't get accepted to Ivey and end up entering 4th year (my last year if I don't get accepted into Ivey) with a less-than impressive resume.

I'm looking for advice on what you would do in my circumstance. Please be as realistic about my situation as possible. I need a wake up call and some shit flung in my direction to wake me up. I should add I'm most interested in ER and IB.
