Seeking Staff Accountant for International Commodity Trading Firm

NY Metro based commodities trading firm seeks immediate full-time accountant who is sharp and learns quickly. Accuracy and attention to detail are priority, as are communication skills and computer literacy. You will be a key member of a dynamic team working directly with the Controller. We are looking for a self-starter with a strong track record of performance. Must be able to work directly with operations daily in a professional manner.

Responsibilities: • Prepare and assist with the review of the financial statements • Participate and lead the monthly financial close • Prepare journal entries and management adjustments with proper documentation and certify various general ledger accounts • Compile weekly bank reconciliation for physical trading company • Forecast cash flow projections monthly • Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures • Perform detail analytical review of accounts in the general ledger including aging schedules for accounts receivable and accounts payable • Collaborate with operations, trading, finance and accounting to bridge newly developed trading system to accounting system • Record sale and purchase transactions, vendor expenses and cash receipts • Follow best business practices by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations • Prepare financial reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information including trend analysis • Safeguard the Firm’s assets and records by keeping financial information confidential • Contribute to team by accomplishing related projects as needed

Requirements: • Strong knowledge of general accounting principles • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration • 1-3 years of current small/medium public accounting experience and/or industry experience • Able to communicate in writing and verbally in a clear, concise and professional manner • Proficient in Excel, Word and QuickBooks • Ability to prioritize, detail oriented, self-starter, willingness to take ownership and follow through • Knowledge of month-end closing, year-end reviews, bank reconciliations, and cash flow maintenance • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail • Excellent analytical skills
