Sending a Follow up Email to HR Manager

Question

Hi everyone,

I recently had a phone interview with a mutual fund company and thought it went very well. The conversation lasted for nearly a half hour and I learned a lot about the structure of the program I am applying for. I was told that I would be contacted within the next week by another manager in the company, but I did not hear anything. After not hearing anything for two and a half weeks, I sent a follow up email to remind the HR manager that I'm still interested in the position and that I enjoyed our conversation.

I had a similar thing happen to me, and most people I know have experienced something similar. When I transitioned into real estate I had a phone interview with a corp recruiter for a senior analyst gig who said she thought I was a good fit and that my resume would be passed on to the hiring manager, but that it was a holiday weekend and follow up in a week if I didn't hear back. Well that was a year ago and I'm still waiting. I never heard anything on my F/Us.

I had an interview where they spent a lot of time talking about the company, program, etc.  I thought it went great, but I was wrong.  I could and hope I am wrong about this with regard to your interview.

From my experienc, the more interested they are in you the more questions they will ask about you.  The only question I have asked a recruiter via a phone interview is "what are the next steps."  Keep in mind, that this is with the recruiter.  If you are on the phone with the hiring manager that is a slightly different situation.

I'd launch a bomb for the end zone. If you do nothing, it's probably a ding, so what does it matter if you get dinged after trying? Might as well go for the hail mary as long as you don't mind potentially embarrassing yourself (which shouldn't matter -- life's short anyway, might as well go for what you want).

One thing you learn working in this business is that pushy people get ahead. I'm not talking about being an asshole (although that can be extremely effective as well if used selectively). But you have to put yourself out there in life and go for what really matters to you.

Hey guys,

A couple weeks back, I had a phone interview with HR. It didn't go well. My behavioral examples didn't really highlight my qualities and skills. It was clear that I was unprepared. Yesterday, I received a generic email (addressed to all applicants) that they were still deciding on who would move on to next round and that we will shortly receive a response.
