Should I tell my bank that I have an offer elsewhere?
I am a SA at a Canadian bank, and prior to starting, I accepted an offer for an EB. I have my mid-term performance review coming up soon, and I don't know how I should approach this. I don't want to take a spot from a possible FT hire, or leave the firm on a bad note (cause I really like the ppl & the culture). What should I do? Should I tell them about my offer in good faith and hope they don't screw me for the rest of the internship, or simply not address it at all till they send out FT offers? Thanks!
bump
I personally wouldn’t address it
Better to leave it alone. If they ask you to come back at the end of the summer, politely decline.
Congrats on the offer to Evercore or Lazard! Definitely recommend you do not mention your accepted offer unless they directly ask you or the end of your internship when they make a return offer to you. At the end if you do receive a return offer, thank your team and the MDs for the experience and then explain that you had accepted an offer at another firm. Canadian MDs tend to be fairly nice and most are supportive so you shouldn't worry about leaving on a bad note. Hope this helps!
There aren't the only EBs that hired Canadians this year lol
he accepted his offer prior to start, most likely Evercore or Lazard since they recruit early
That's true but there's only two EBs in Toronto (Lazard and Evercore) and Greenhill too (if it counts). Otherwise, it's gotta be either NYC/LA/SF.
