Summer Auditing Internship

Hello everyone. I'm a first year grad enrolled in an MS Accounting program. I'm really interested in obtaining a summer internship and noticed that many companies have already started taking applications. I was wondering whether I should go ahead and apply or is there a way to do it through my school in hopes of a higher chance for an initial interview? I'm very unfamiliar on how this whole process works. Thanks in advance.

You are pretty late in the game for summer recruiting. Big 4 is definitely out of the question but you may still have some luck with smaller public firms and some of the f500's. Why did you not go through fall ocr for your school, that is the main time and path to snag a summer internship? What kind of firm are you looking to work for?

This is my first year as a grad and I was busy studying for the GMAT and applying to various schools. I did not receive an acceptance until December. I may have to settle for a small firm this year just to get my foot in the door. By the way, not sure what ocr means since I'm still new to this.

I attend Peter J Tobin at St John's. I made an appointment to sit with my career advisor this upcoming Friday so I will be able to get more information at that time. I am also meeting the program director next week so he can help me devise a proper study plan for the CPA.
