Summer Housing is a Shitshow

Title. Any incoming SAs for ‘22 please share your thoughts/experience.

Currently looking for a 2BR in Midtown with a roommate. Started looking around $5000 all-in per month in Dec, realizing best case is $6000, and in any case, landlords are unresponsive or unwilling to talk for the very few listings that are out there. Seems like they want to wait.

I am aware of most of the websites out there incl. Leasebreak, Apt212, etc. Airbnb has nothing and is ridiculously expensive anyways.

How’s the search going for other SA22s? Comments from those who went through this during non-Covid would also be super helpful.

I have had the same experience. Looked at all the sites and have been emailing back and forth with brokers for a few weeks. You're right about prices in Manhattan for a 2BR - everything I have seen is now over $6,000/mo. with broker fees included for a minimum of 3 months.

I think I finally found a place, but I literally had to commit on the spot and overpay. Everyone I have spoken to either took a gamble and booked super early months ago or is getting screwed right now.

My suggestion would be to go with the first place that somewhat fits what you're looking for. The brokers have been telling me that things are getting picked up super quickly in the short-term market and prices are only going up.
