Hey I'm looking for a place in NYC too!
I found good luck with Craigslist last year when i interned, but it really depends if you have the time to see the place. If you go to school near NYC and can take a few days to see places, then go for craigslist.
I've always heard EHS has weird buildings/rules? I think there was another thread about this.
how much should i expect to pay (craigslist, that is)?
What building were you assigned. I would like to know this for when i call them and ask them if they have any openings bright and early monday morning. Since thye insist i sweat my balls off.

i have no idea. i got a really good deal last summer ($1000/2BR near Columbia U) because it was subsidized professors' housing.
I would imagine you'd be pay the going rate (depending on the area, anywhere from 1300 to 1800). It could be higher because there are always people coming into the city for the summer and desperate for housing but take this with a grain of salt.
