Summer Intern Networking tips

Hi guys.

I’m currently a second year student applying for summer internships in IB or S&T and I’m looking for some advice on how to increase my chances of securing an internship.

I am not familiar with networking, could someone explain how they network on LinkedIn and approach a conversation in person with a banker? In the past I have spoken to some people and asked about how they find working in the industry and their everyday role at the firm, but I’m struggling to have follow up conversations to then seek a referral.

Advice on how people structure their conversations and then network the following weeks to then ask for a referral would be highly appreciated.
