Summer Plan of Attack

Monkeys,

I hope everybody's summer is off to a great start. I am writing to you today for some advice on my summer plan of attack. Just finished my second year (sophomore) with a 3.9 GPA. I want to prepare myself for the summer internships process next year and would like some advice what and how should I do that.

I will hopefully be interning at a small financial planning shop this summer. While I know this is not directly Investment banking I wanted to get some sort of finance experience and show my drive and interest for the finance industry. I was also told I will be extremely hands on in terms of work. I have also interned for a bulge bracket bank but for their technology department nothing related to IB or finance. I know my best bet would be networking however I attend an extremely non-target school that has no alumni in IB. This past year I have been cold calling/emailing various boutique banks and been getting the general response (we don't hire second years typically). How should I network this summer to gain a connection within various banks? What could I be doing this summer or even early next fall in order to stand out against other applicants? Any reading material that would be helpful? Thanks in advance for all the replies. Also please feel free to pm I would greatly appreciate any pearls of wisdom that you guys might want to share.

Best,
BigApeMike
