Temporary/Short-term Jobs

I just recently graduated and am moving to NY in ~2 weeks. I currently don't have a job but I'm moving in with a friend and I would like to contribute to rent/utilities for allowing me to stay while I continue looking for more permanent FT opportunities. Essentially, I'm hoping to find something PT/FT that would hire immediately so I could pay him a little and obviously feed myself, but perhaps wouldn't be a complete waste of time. Should I be looking at temp agencies? Is there certain resources I should be taking advantage of?

Thanks for any help!
