thank you letters in this situation? overkill or not

Hi, i was wondering if thank you emails are overkill for this situation. Say you get an individual call welcoming you to an IBD group from the senior levels of the said group (head, senior MD, COO?). Would a thank you email be necessary/considered polite or overkill?

Thanks in advance!

Likely won't matter either way. A quick "Thank you for the kind words and I'm looking forward to the experience etc" won't hurt.

Also, choose between "said" and "the" in your second sentence...writing intelligibly will be very important as an SA.
