Tie for intern/interviews
Internship application season is starting soon in the UK. Was wondering if ties are needed for interviews/internships because my current shirts are a tiny bit tight on the collar when buttoned up, and sizing up would definitely require tailoring. So if unneeded, I’d prefer not to wear one.
Seen recently that fashion is a lot more casual now, so just wanted to confirm.
London, primarily market roles (S&T, AM etc)
Based on the most helpful WSO content, wearing a tie for interviews and internships in London, especially for market roles like S&T and Asset Management, is generally recommended. While fashion trends may lean more casual, it's better to err on the side of formality during interviews. A tie signals professionalism and respect for the process, which is crucial when making a first impression.
For internships, the dress code can vary depending on the firm's culture. It's advisable to start with a tie on your first day and observe what others are wearing. If the environment is more relaxed, you can adjust accordingly. However, for interviews, always go with a tie unless explicitly told otherwise.
