Tone-Deaf to ask for a coffee chat on a Sunday?

I go to a school that is pretty far from financial hub cities like NYC & SF. This weekend I'll be in NYC to attend a conference and I wanted to get in some coffee chats. However, it looks like I'll only have Sunday afternoon free. It seems to me like the last thing a banker/PE associate would want to do is network with some kid on a Sunday, but I wanted to make the most of the time i'm here. Would it be rude to ask for a coffee chat on a Sunday?

I would not do this, it just comes off really tone-deaf. Bankers are already doing you a huge favor getting on the phone, don't ask them to come and meet you on a Sunday.

Phone chats or Zoom really work fine, stick to that if M-F aren't going to work. You don't need to meet people in person. I think I've met... 3 or 4 coffee chats in person since Covid, out of literally hundreds of coffee chats.

I was also recruiting for VC/Growth, does the same still apply?

Not the best situation but I think if you preface it, you can still make the ask. Just say, "Unfortunately, Sunday is the only day that I can get together. If we can meet for a coffee, that would be great but totally understand if you can't as Sunday is a tough day for everyone. Also, maybe, another option is we grab brunch at XYZ."

Edit: This is also assuming you've already talked with this person a little bit. I think it's a tougher ask for a complete stranger.

I'm offering the kid the best way to make a Hail Mary attempt at networking. If this Sunday is literally going to be his only time in NYC for potential networking, a few Hail Mary attempts might be worth it.  Maybe nothing will come off it, but if you don't ask, 100% chance that nothing will come of it.

If you're in the city all the time, yeah definitely don't do this. If this is your one shot, make a few hail mary asks and do so in a gracious and understanding way that allows the other person to back out without any awkwardness.
