Two Networking Questions

I've been sending out emails to alumni. Two questions:

  1. Should I rely on the personal email address that they have given to the alumni directory or should I try to construct their work address? If I have followed up to a personal email address and I still get no response, should I try work address? Some alums have said they don't check personal emails anymore.

  2. What time of day is best to get my emails seen?

I've been having problems with both of this, so far I've been using personal addresses and then following up with those as well. Sometimes they will FW it to their work email and reply from there, sometimes not and just stick with the personal.

As far as what time of day, everybody seems to say do it so it's first thing in the inbox at the start of the day, so that means either sending it at like 2AM or sending it at 8AM. If you have gmail, I suggest using Boomerang (an app) which lets you pick what time the email will be sent, so I can write and go to bed at 11PM and it will be sent at 8:52 AM. However, I haven't really seen much of a difference in the rate of replies based on what time I send them.

Warning: I don't have a job yet, so keep that in mind...
