Trading firms love poker players and people who have competed (and succeeded) in high-level intellectual and strategic games. I think you definitely need to lean on that stuff in interviews. The hard part may be getting interviews in the first place, but I think you have an ace there too. Your sister should be willing to go to bat for you and leverage some of her connections to get people to talk to you. If that's the case, you'll at least be on people's radar, and then it's up to you to impress them.

Basically, I think you'll make it. But you can position yourself even more strongly by improving your GPA and making sure you're studying the right stuff. What is your current major, and what type of job would you like to pursue?

I too am from a very non target from CA. I went to one of the Cal State Univ (CSU) schools (Not Cal Poly SLO) and the only finance jobs that recruit on campus are for sales jobs (FA, Insurance) or Bank Branch Manager training programs. All the big 4's recruit at all the non targets universities in CA near LA and SF for audit and tech consulting. If your at a total non target like myself, might want to consider accounting or tech consulting. If your at UCLA, UCSD, UofA or ASU or Boulder you might have a shot at a hedge-fund by networking with alumns.
