UofT alumni database + linkedin problem

Hey WSO focus!

1)For people who have studied at UofT, how did you use the alumni database to your advantage? It will only let me search people by first and last name. No filtering on industries. In BIWS where Brian showed his Standford alumni database, he can actually search alumni from certain industries. Am I missing something or this is not possible with UofT?

2)From WSO, I learned that I can search in LinkedIn by filtering my school name and field name. A lot of members do show up, but most of them has his/her name as private. So I cannot go back to the alumni database to match it. Are people able to find a way around this? or I just have to suck it up.

Thank you!

There is definitely a way around not being able to see the names. You can get an email to 99% of people on that site.

Once you find a person, you'll see a set of characteristics about them, like work experience, school, etc. Let's say you find a guy named John S, who went to Harvard, works at Morgan Stanley, and interned at UBS during school. Go into Google and put "site:linkedin.com" in (without the quotes) to filter all the results by ones on Linkedin. Then, after that, put "John Harvard Morgan Stanley UBS (and whatever other characteristics you find." His name should pop up, click on the profile to make sure it's the right one. Put his name into the company email format and you're golden.

Baby you're the perfect shape, baby you're the perfect weight. Treat me like my birthday, I want it this way and I want it that way. It makes a man feel good baby.

tequilazombie: I agree, I guess we will have to just go with what we have :(

notaspammer: Thank you for the insight, in your example you were actually able to at least see their first name. "John". When I do the search, the whole name is written as "Private". Sorry, if I miss understood you.

You can still see some stuff about them dude. It'll give their title, maybe some previous info, education. You can also see the "viewers of this profile also viewed" section, and if you click on someone with a similar title it'll often link right back to their original page. And that usually gives the full name of others in the company too. Get creative, it's pretty easy to manipulate.
