Very Frustrating Recruiting Process ---Help/Advice Needed!

I had my interview more than a month ago. They promised to let me know in two weeks. After two weeks, they didn't get back to me. So I reached out. HR told me to wait for another week. The following week, MD called me and gave me a verbal offer (no details regarding start date, salaries, etc). And I was told they would give me a formal response in a week. Now the frustration started...they kept telling me they needed more time...Now, it's been almost six weeks since I had my interviews (more than 3 weeks since I got my "verbal offer"), I still don't have a formal response. What should I do? I am extremely confused about what is going on...Is it because I am actually on a wait-list and they are waiting for other candidates to make decisions before extending me a formal offer? All the communications were done via phone, so I don't have any evidence of getting a "verbal offer". Help needed! Thanks a lot

I would call the MD and ask him to extend you a formal offer shortly, and casually mention you have a couple of other offers on the table, and so would like all the information so you can best make your decision, but also mention that you like them the best so far and are strongly considering them, dependent on the terms of their offer of course.
