What do we think about harvardX free courses to learn python or certain coding programs ?
I would like to increase my expertise in coding. I have been doing VBA for a while but to be a quant at my bank they would prefer at least that i have python. Currently i am broke (dont ask why) and i saw some courses on CSS50 harvard x about python and computer science. Would that help me if i pass those courses and put their certification on my CV ?
Knowing Python is more important than having a certificate saying that you know Python.
Of course. I want to learn python and at least have the knowledge to create my own algos for my personal trading. Just wondering how could i leverage my knowledge in a way that a recruiter/ Hiring manager would give me a chance loool
Echo the above.
And that is how I learnt programming while in a different engineering discipline. Not Harvard CS50, but MIT intro to programming courses. Was great exercise for python.
If you want to learn data science, Harvard has a good course in R. Idk if they still have it after the genAI boom, but these were very helpful when I was in college (pre-covid).
Do it for the knowledge if you are actually interested, that on your resume will barely do anything.

I have a HS friend who took a Harvard online course after graduating from their masters / being unemployed during the early stages of the COVID pandemic. Ended up helping them get into a desirable consulting group in that specific topic taught by Harvard. Might be an anomaly as Q3 2020 was when hiring picked up drastically.
