What is a pricing analyst?

Title. I couldn't figure this out (perhaps I'm too stupid to do so, hence the fact that I'm interviewing for this job). Any transferrable skills here for someone looking to move into equity research?

Consulting? Please correct me if I'm wrong but you're interviewing for an analyst position where you're allowed to set the price structure on the advice you dispose to businesses? And from there you plan on moving into equity research? That's interesting.

I'm not sure where you noted consulting. However, I'm asking what a pricing analyst does to confirm my belief that it is unrelated to research.

I'd like to note that you used the word "dispose" incorrectly. "Dispense" was the word you were looking for.

Pricing (how much you sell for) and Sourcing (how much you buy for). Generally, you'll be looking at margin enhancement initiatives. In pricing, you might be working with the sales force trying to get them to increase their margins. Why are they selling product X @ 14% when the should be getting 17%? Why is customer group A getting charged the same price as group B? In sourcing, you might evaluate buying products from different vendors. Should I buy the widget from Vendor A or Vendor B? What are their terms?

I don't like to speak in absolutes; but, there are no transferable skills to lateral to ER.

I'll do what I can to help ya'll. But, the game's out there, and it's play or get played.
