What is the play here?

I applied to a small regional boutique where I had a fairly strong connection. They cover a pretty niche industry that I'm super passionate about and can't imagine they have a super extensive out HR process. I was told by the connect when I applied that they would be reviewing resumes "in the coming weeks" and to keep an eye on my inbox. That was one month ago today and I haven't heard anything.

Is it worth following up? I don't want to seem pushy as it seemed like a it'll happen when it happens situation, but I also want to make sure I'm putting my best foot forward. Any advice appreciated.
