What more can I do?

I've been searching for a part-time position for when I head back to school in September. Ideally, it would be with a boutique and about 15-20hrs a week. To date, I have held 2 good internships with a BB, however, neither have been in even remotely relevant roles.

I networked my way into an interview with a boutique that has small teams involved in IBD, ER, and S+T. Their primary revenue generation is through advisory services to European hedge funds. Following the interview, I sent my thank-you note and references. The response I received from them was "Thanks for meeting with us. We are in the midst of full-time hiring right now, so get back to us in August in regards to a part-time position." I followed up with them yesterday.

What kind of a message are they sending? Do you think they are politely brushing me off or do they have a genuine interest in hiring me?

Also, I e-mailed a handful of other firms I would be interested in working for. Haven't received and responses. Is it too forward to call them directly if I can find their individual contact info? I don't have any alum connections so it would be purely cold calling.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I would just do as they say, follow up in late August - let them finish full-time recruiting. Continue your search elsewhere. It is a good sign they met with you, but cetainly not a sure shot a position. When you get back in touch, offer to work for free and reiterate your potential value-add to them. Not much else you can do at this point. If they don't answer you then, move on.

Thanks - I followed up with them again yesterday, so hopefully they're in a position to bring someone on for a few hours a week.
