What to do - Rising senior at non-target with a 3.5
I need your opinions on this guys. I'm a rising senior at a non-target with a 3.5 GPA, i dont have any prior experience in finance and i want to go into IDB. I was given an offer for a boutique WM internship non-paid (3 month commitment 1 week to decide). I've called a few boutique IB with no luck in getting an internship.
Now my question is should i just take this offer and have some finance experience when it comes to F.T recruiting. Or should I still try calling up boutiques, will any boutique give non-paid internships this late in the game? I just don't want to end this summer with no finance experience at all
Thanks
You should obviously take it as its all you have. Its unpaid so network in your off time. You need something finance on your resume. ASAP
take with WM internship and keep cold calling/emailing if you end up with a boutique offer in the middle of the summer jump ship from WM.
Call every banker on the company directory, make friends out of them, then hit them up for a job.
You're welcome.
It's better than nothing, you -have- to take it
Keep calling literally every single firm
See if you're school has a student managed investment fund. I know it's not really suited for IBD, but it'll help pad the resume imo (I could be wrong, maybe IBD looks down on investing)
so is a PWM internship. but it shows interest in finance......
PMd you
I'd take it now, keep cold calling boutique IBs and offer to work for free. Make sure to say you will work for free. At this point you shouldn't worry about getting paid.
And wm internship > nothing > burger king

http://www.razume.com/documents/20051[/quote] Couple of things: 1. create a new thread for your resume: you want to get as much exposure as possible 2. on the new thread, put a summary of your story - Like the resume, you want as many qualified people here to give you their $0.02 3. For the alumni contact: focus on getting to know this person - do NOT ask them for a job right away. Build a bridge, and make sure to be sincere. It also REALLY helps to take a big interest in everything about them: you want to know how they did it, right? 4. Realize that this is a numbers game: maximize your chance with every contact, but also realize that if one person isn't hiring....another is, so keep moving and don't burn bridges: things change. 5. What you're really doing is asking for advice: they may offer you a position, you may have to pester them for it later, but right now just get them to like everything about you.
That was really fast progreess, way to go! Make sure to post an update of your story at some point and pay it forward to the next person YOU can encourage. Karma's a bitch: keep her happy :)
Thanks a lot for the info UFO. I talked to a Director who went to my school and i think it went so-so could of gone better lasted about 20 minutes and give me points and tips on what to do. we talked about how going to a non-targer in NYC we get overshadowed by NYU and Columbia...
