What’s your relationship with caffeine?
Curious as to how much/often Analysts consume caffeine. And if any changes to their consumption has an effect on their performance.
Personally, I’ve been tapering back and have noticed I fall asleep faster and have a better sleep schedule. After the first few days I didn’t need caffeine to feel “normal” but was still slightly sluggish. I wanted to have a low tolerance to it going in so if I actually need it, I would feel the effects.
1 energy drink (200mg) a day and like 10 diet cokes
I'm still a student but ingest between 300-400 mg per day. Normally coffee in the morning and energy drink around 1 or 2 to combat the post-lunch slump. During finals I will also take adderall, usually 15-20 MG XR, once or twice per day. The key is to ingest these substances in time windows where they won't screw with your sleep too much. I get quality sleep routinely, but if you drink/take this stuff past like 4 PM, you are really setting yourself up poorly.
Generally, 3-4 coffees a day but I can't drink one after 2 pm or so or I'll be up all night. I sleep horribly and it's something I'm actively trying to optimize by laying off caffeine among other things.
I also never drink soda. That shit is literal poison. Can't believe so many people willingly drink it on a regular basis.
2 large cups of coffee max. Loads of green tea. Green tea doesn't give me a headache like coffee does if I consume 3+ cups.
On a daily basis I consume enough drugs to sedate Manhattan, Long Island, and Queens for a month. I take Quaaludes 10-15 times a day for my "back pain", Adderall to stay focused, Xanax to take the edge off, pot to mellow me out, cocaine to wake me back up again, and morphine... Well, because it's awesome.
This statement always made me laugh because I met a pre-GFC BSD MD at one of the big banks at a party when I was younger and this statement sounded like his lifestyle. Guy was drunk and looked like he had some drugs earlier that night. Hot wife/sick car too.
Drank 400mg+ daily my freshman year of college and was naive about cold turkeying it. During finals I was off schedule studying and running around to different buildings, so I unintentionally didn’t drink the caffeine. Was so anxious and shaking so much.
Subsequently quit and barely drink it now as a first year unless I’m exhausted in the morning and know that I need to be awake for a client meeting and it has a big effect, otherwise I still won’t drink it even if tired. Even if I drink it I’ll have trouble falling asleep which just makes me more tired the next day.
Unhealthy
Only caffeine I have is in my preworkout and I dont really enjoy it. Feels like there is no benefit to it.
Caffeine is one of my oldest and closest friends. It's never done me wrong and I can always count on it
You should check out Caffio - it’s a water bottle + an app that gives you small, steady doses of caffeine to keep your energy up without the usual spikes and crashes. They’re coming to market soon, so if you’re looking for something different from coffee or energy drinks, it might be worth checking out. I know they recently opened up their waitlist at trycaffio.
