When is it okay to say someone referred you?

Hi, wondering the community's quick response to this.

If someone on a call says "you should talk to xyz, they'd be a great resource." but doesn't explicitly put you in touch through email, can you email the other person and say they "referred" you in the subject line? I wouldn't hesitate to put it in the body, but wondering what you think.

Might be nitpicky but don't want to step on toes here. Found that this type of impression matters.

A good question given the insane value of a reference. Probably gives you a 3x chance of a positive response.

If you think the referee would say “yeah, I told him to reach out” when asked, then yes do it. Even if it’s not a glowing yes, them knowing you aren’t bullshitting is the priority.

I would also use the term “referred from” rather than “referral from”. Referral implies the person will actually vouch for you.
