Hi everyone, Was wondering where is the best area to live in New York and the stereotypes of each? I was considering anywhere in Chelsea, Greenwich Village, East Village, Gramercy Park, Soho and maybe Tribeca or Financial District (only because roommate wants to live here).
Work is in Flatiron district.

I have previously lived in Queens, Tribeca and Chelsea. Liked Tribeca most, maybe because my apartment there was the best out of the three.

cant go wrong with Murray Hill or East Village for a 22yr old. Murray Hill will have nicer apts but further from the bars.

Would fidi be a bad idea even if it meant a nicer apartment?
FiDi is dead after 7PM on weekdays and especially on the weekends. The places you suggested such as Gramercy and EV you're more likely to find a younger crowd and cheaper apartments. Chelsea and Soho will cost you a bit more though. All of these places are centrally located to the point where if you did want to go to another neighborhood walkability wouldn't be that much of an issue and transit is everywhere
Don't recommend Fidi at all unless you are working in the area. Granted I lived in 180water long time ago and loved it. Super quick to take an uber anywhere and all the hunnies pants dropped when they wanted into the building.
180 is nice, surprised you're telling them not to live in fidi...I've lived in buildings in the area and loved it, it's ok that fidi is dead at night because of tribeca IMO. Buildings are nicer/better value than other areas too I think.
