Which job offer would you take
Which job offer would you take? I am not interested in IB long term, mostly just interested for the exit opps it provides. I see myself working a few years doing an MBA then working in Corp dev/Corp strat or Corp fin long term.
Offer 1: FP&A at a FAANG All in comp first year ~110k
Offer 2: IB at CS
This is hypothetical at this point because I will be interning at one of these companies this summer, and the other one I interned at before, so believe I have a strong chance of securing a FT offer.
IB at CS. It’s generally better for your career to pick a role that is revenue-generating for the company that you’re working at instead of picking a supporting role (I.e front office IB at a bank instead of back office). For tech, the software team is generally revenue-generating, especially for FAANG. FP&A would work to support the ‘financial planning’ that comes from these products that the SWE team is working to create.
Regardless, I think most people on this forum would be biased to suggest the IB job anyway, but I think that rationale is supported by this logic. If this was FAANG SWE, I’d say it would be a tougher choice. Just my opinion
second that
IB at Houlihan > Risk at Morgan Stanley
Take IB CS. MBA programs will like that IB role more than the FAANG FP&A.
Do you have any source on that? Bankers are a dime a dozen at top 10 MBA programs, while ex-FAANG is prevalent but more rare
Not enough to take FP&A, even at FAANG.
GO TO CS AND YOU CAN PRETEND YOURE DOING COMPUTER SCIENCE, pick cs
