Which offer is better - Derivative trading at oil refiner vs Modelling consultant at Big 4
Dear All,
From a long time I have been following WSO and found its members advice very useful. Request advice regarding a career switch opportunity.
Regarding my profile, I have completed my FRM and two levels of CFA. Bachelors in Comp Science and MBA in finance. Have 4 years experience in middle office, developed var models and strong in comp science.
I am currently employed as a risk manager in middle office at a refining company. I have two offers in hand. 1. Derivative trading at my company - Refiner (mostly execution for physical desk mandates and little bit of prop) 2. Financial securities valuation consultant at Big 4(Deloitte): Mostly derivative model validation work.
I am in a fix which opportunity to pursue. My concerns are as follows:-
- How easy is it to switch from trading at a refiner to banks
- Future of Physical oil trading (given all banks have exit the business), given i can spend 4 years and get a shot at Physical trading
- Future of derivative model validation
Any help/ advice / insights are welcome. Thanking everyone in advance.
