Will this be a ding on my career?

I will try to keep it concise but thorough….

First year analyst looking to lateral from a MM to EB/BB in the coming months (ideally rate cuts/improving market sentiment boost the hiring market).

I’d be moving from one “T1” city to another “T1” city. My primary motive is being closer to my family and friends. The caveat, I am also hoping to pursue a buy side seat.

If I’m able to lateral and land a buy side role (a lot of hypotheticals), would being at 3 companies in 3 years be a black spot on my resume?

Looking for advice from people in hiring roles or people who have made a similar series of moves in the past.

No this is fine and not too uncommon. Pretty normal to lateral for hopes at better buyside options.

The 3 moves in 3 years is okay when you have legitimate reasons to do and are using it to get to an end point, it's the people who move from job to job without any real reason that are red flags. I would definitely be picky about your buyside job so you stay at least 2-3 years there, but don't worry about this
