How much do your looks matter in Finance?

I was just wondering how much does the way you look impact your career in finance. For example, a pretty girl in finance or a 6'3 handsome guy versus an unattractive girl and a 5'6 unattractive dude.

How far can looks go in this industry?

I can probably say observationally that people in finance tend to be slightly above the median in attractiveness, typically this has to do with their privileged backgrounds, lots of athletes/vets, etc. How you present yourself certainly matters and I think being well put together (ie being articulate, wearing nice clothes that fit, being in decent shape) works in your favor. Height probably matters a bit less for positions which don’t interview in-person as a lot of processes have shifted to virtual but I would bet that being taller would work in your favor as well during interviews or performance reviews simply due to greater presence/gravitas. That being said, one of the biggest badasses I knew was at Apollo is a 5’5” indian guy from a nontarget.
