6 week observer, 1st time poster

This is my first post, so I'd like to the chance thank all the posters who have helped shape my perception of the finance industry. The advice, opinions, and experience shared in these forums is beyond beneficial for those with no experience. However, I cannot quote WSO as relevant knowledge/experience in interviews. Thus, I pose to you my situation and ask for any advice to help a kid get into investment banking:

I am a junior at the University of Tennessee; a school marred by average academics, subpar athletics, and minimal connections into ibanking, PE, or any related fields. Trust me, if I had been on this board as a high-schooler (those kids are on their sh!t), I would never have applied to this institution. I only chose UT because in-state tuition and I was accepted to the honors program.

Regrets aside, I have spent the last couple of months reading and learning anything related to investment banking, a lot of which came from this board. My timing was unfortunate as I was late on the recruiting cycle and still to this day I am cold calling nearby boutiques to gauge interest on a summer internship.

If the worst occurs and I have an empty summer, I need some advice on how I can use that time to prepare for FT recruiting in the fall. I've been networking and have a few connections in ATL and Charlotte, but getting in the door is only the beginning. I would like to hear some input on how to prepare myself for potential superdays and interviews. With no experience and a non-target on my resume, I need some ways to become more valuable over the summer. Any suggestions? Realistic predictions for my future are welcome, I want to be successful in this industry and will do what it takes.

I appreciate it -
