Aussie who just got WSO elite modelling course wanted to break into IB in Sydney

Hi all,

I hope you're staying positive and testing negative. My name is Clayton an Aussie that lives in Adelaide looking to move to Sydney and break into a bulge bracket investment bank here in Australia. I have met some people who work at the likes of Citi and JP Morgan from my university (which is top 8 in Australia) I have only heard their experience through the lens of an intern. I Also have a mentor from a CFA case competition I completed who worked at multiple banks until he moved to Sweden and became a partner of a boutique. I have currently completed an internship at an accounting mid level accounting firm in my first year, and this summer I'm completing an internship at Argo Investments, one of Australia's ASX200 listed limited investment company as a research intern, and I'm probably going to get a role at a small boutique PE firm here in Adelaide working on a live deal.

I plan on staying at university to complete my honours in 2021 so next year will still be my penultimate year thus I will be eligible to apply for internship programs at the investment banks once again. My GPA suffered in 2017 and 2018 when my mother got Alzheimer and I decided to still stay at university when I should've deferred. My CFA mentor advised me to put my last twelve months GPA which should be above a 6/7 (>75% WAM) and hopefully these plus me being president of finance society at my campus will make me a good candidate. I plan on picking up modelling skills over the summer while I work these two internships so I can successfully get through all the technical questions and perform well if I get a BBIB internship.

Would love to hear and connect with anyone here in Australia - Adelaide even!

Kind regards,

Clayton
