First job in Finance (Private Placement) bad fit?

Hey guys, first post.

So I'm graduating in December and am expecting an offer next week from the place I am currently interning at (MD said this would happen). I am looking for some opinions/advice on if where I am is a bad fit, or just generally what others think of my current situation. Not looking for sympathy, just looking for advice.

I am currently feeling pretty inadequate at my job in general lately (been there for 5 months). A lot of what I do is portfolio management/monitoring on credits in our portfolio, and it involves a lot of writing/research, attention to detail, financial statement analysis, etc. Basically I will spend days meticulously reviewing an investment and editing what I have done in an attempt to iron out mistakes and whatnot but it seems without fail I always get my submission returned with a significant amount of corrections. I was told a few months ago that this is normal, however I have not had more feedback on my progress since then. Additionally, I believe I spend longer to finish my assignments than the other analysts. I have read time and time again on the interwebz to submit flawless work, but I am just not seeing how this is possible, especially when a quick turnaround is expected.

However, what I find more debilitating is my inability to converse with other members of the company about what is going on. I find it extremely difficult to be able to coherently express my 'findings' or to just carry a conversation about what I have done. What is even more embarrassing is not being able to answer a question regarding a submission that I spent days working on (I forget even the basics of the transaction?). Considering it is my job to know the portfolio and know it well, I can't help but feel this will lead to serious problems down the road, especially if the MD begins asking questions and all I can respond with is an 'idk'. I also get the sense my direct boss is beginning to lose patience with me...

Some other facts:
-I have a 4.0, but have never considered myself particularly 'quick'
-I sometimes find what I am reading difficult to understand and overwhelming
-I have received virtually no training
-I often doubt that I am in the right industry
-I find this work to be pretty boring
-Expecting an offer from another firm, no guarantee that it will be a better fit and I am pretty certain the pay will be less (current job pays very well)
-I don't have an extensive background in finance.

I am fairly confident that some of this will improve over time, though I am not 100% certain.

Any thoughts are appreciated.
