Frenchy looking for advice
Hi,
I'm currently a penultimate year student in a Grande École of engineering (Top-5).
For those who are not familiar with the French educational system, wikipedia / Grande École (I'm not authorized to post links)
I'm will also be a first year Master's Degree student in "Applied Mathematics and IT" at a nearby university who accepted me knowing that I'll be attending Supélec at the same time (can we say "in parallel"?)
I'm doing this in order to give myself an advantage over my classmates when it comes to mathematics (especially probabilities) and information sciences and to extend "my network".
I know I want a job in Mathematical Finance as soon as I graduate from both educations (2015), so I spend a month of my 2013 summer holidays as a summer intern for a French insurance company (not hard to guess which one :)) and I believe that in order for me to succeed I need an internship abroad which brings us to the questions (finally !) :
- I saw that many financial companies hire undergraduates for a summer program, do you know which are more keen to employ frenchies?
- Will there be any confusion if I write two masters degree in my CV? Should I write the university one inside my Grande École's section or create two separate sections and write "In parallel" in one?
- I saw on the forums that French LinkedIn profile are not appreciated, I registered not too long ago, but are they really useful for someone who hasn't finished their studies? It is OK just to send a message/add someone you don't know to learn more about the business?
- I've seen that in order to apply to internships in the UK a 2:1 expected degree(of higher) is required, the same thing with GPA's (>3 or 3.5). According to www-education-gov-uk/, the Diplôme d'Ingénieur (the equivalent of an MSc delivered by my Grande École) grants automatically "First-class Honours" since the competition is over after the classe préparatoire's competitive exams (in order to get in a Grande École). But I have not found anything for the US, we have a GPA in our École, but it is used only for admissions to double degrees and I think it's quite misaligned (a 3.3 gives us admissions to big universities...) and we are compared to each other (the top 5% after the competitive exams), does anyone have a link or could provide me with more information?
