From medicine to finance?

Hi guys,

Long story short. I finished med school last year (not us or uk) at a non target, good grades, research papers. I simultaneously managed to get on my national team and get ranked top 300 in the world in my sport. Just wrapped up my intern year as a doctor in the middle east, I also have a startup thats gaining traction.

I was not forced into medicine, I truly enjoyed it up until this year once i began to practice at a top hospital. Just not an environment i see myself in log term for A. the people around me dont match my personality and B. I want to make a lot of money, faster than the 15 year route itll take me in medicine.

Started recently looking into the financial world by recommendation from a couple friends of mine that are in the space. The idea of it being a meritocracy that results in financial reward is very appealing to me. I enjoy winning and being under pressure, but i wont lie my goal is not to work for 50 years. I want the pressure, I want the blame if i mess up and the praise if i succeed. I wont want to go through politics, and I want grow my net worth.

Wanted your guys input/guidance!

Thoughts on my chances?

Reccs on what field suit what Im looking for? etc. Im based in the GCC and europe.

Cheers!

hahah just went through it.

To be fair grass is always greener; however, Med is a draining field man. Its a glorified service industry. Patients come to you scared and worried which affects how they treat you, meaning we get treated like shit. Long ass road to secure your specialty in any field, long ass time till you start making back your money and even then theres no prospect of early retirement because you cant skip rank. you need to put in the hours seeing patients, operating etc to build the necessary skill and reputation. Its not like it used to be. This year alone was enough to dissuade me. 14 hour night shifts, on call on weekends. 8-14 hour days, for no finanical reward. pretty rough.

Sounds pretty miserable. I know you're asking, but do you have an idea of what area of finance you wish to pursue? What do your friends do/did? This forum is very NY IB -> PE driven.
