incoming CMU Freshman

I'm not exactly a new user, but I still wanted to introduce myself. I'm am incoming freshman in Carnegie Mellon and I'm planning to double major in business and math. I've already discovered a lot by being on WSO and hope to continue learning from this great community. I also hope to meet some CMU students/alumni and other students who'll be starting college with me. That's just about it; thanks for reading!

 

CMU BSCF student here.

You'll probably be taking a lot of similar classes as the track for compfi so it's easier for you than another major. When I asked Prof Shreve, he told me that it would be based one 3 factors - 1. grades 2. social interaction 3. interest in finance.

  1. Be sure to get an A in all of your core math classes (3d calc, diff eq, linear algebra, concepts) and programming classes (112, 122). I had around a 3.82 when I applied.
  2. Be a social person. A lot of cmu people are kind of complete nerds and can't really talk. be a normal person and be able to hold a conversation.
  3. Be genuinely interested in quant finance. They will know haha
