Is It Worth The Move?
Hi All,
First time poster, long time reader – so please bare with me!
Recently, I was offered the opportunity to work for a MM firm as an assistant to a small group of traders and research analysts (think buy side trading/research). My role is basically an assistant to the group – everything from admin to small projects requested by the traders/analysts. Obviously, I will not be making investment related decisions (for now) but it’s a role in the FO, which can potentially lead to something bigger. This will be a full time position, roughly 1500 miles away from where I live currently.
My goal 2-3 years from now is to move back to a larger city (LA/SF/Chicago), with hopes of becoming a trader or an analyst.
But first, some background on me: Currently working in BO for a well-known firm. Undergraduate degree from a non-target with a decent GPA (3.0+).
My question is: Do you think the job/work experience is worth the move? I know this is a very competitive field, but will this experience be enough to land me a better offer down the road in a larger city? I am also considering grad school and/or CFA. Your thoughts are appreciated.
It's a FO so I would do it. If you want to be a trader you don't need a CFA.
Seems like a no brainer. DO IT
Agreed with the rest. Also, for Grad school FO experience will help with your BB experience for a top tier mba. Since, your a non target your GPA could hurt depending, where it is based on your 3.0+ description.
Thanks for the opinions/advice.
