jumping ship from eqty to muni FI? next step in career

Hi everyone-- I have been a long-term lurker, and finally decided to join the site as a member.

I graduated from a non-target liberal arts school in TX, and landed a BO summer analyst position at a bulge bracket between my junior and senior year. I toured the BB's trading desk and got to shadow a couple of trading desks while I was a summer analyst, and quickly realized trading is where I wanted/needed to be. I was able to land a gig as an jr. equity trader at an RIA, which has about +3billion in aum. I have been in this position for a year now, and an opportunity has presented itself in where I can become the firm's fixed income trader. Our fixed income purchases are primarily in the muni space, although they do buy corporates as well (all issues bought, muni or corporates, have an investment grade rating). The FI trader also handles anything execution related to option trading.

Given the hit FI desks have taken in major banks, what route would you guys recommend? In the future, I would love to work in a riskier fund, either dealing with derivative trading or (if it was to be in FI) in high-yield and distressed debt investing. I would also love to more over to the banking side.

current stats: 3.85 ug gpa (majored in econ, minored in applied math) took CFA level 1 exam in Dec. 2015 (awaiting results) will start masters program in applied and industrial mathematics this summer

Thanks,
