My Introduction - Non-target in honors program

Hello All,
Though I have been lurking on this fantastic website for about couple of months, Patrick's push made me to write this intro about myself.
I go to a non target (Georgia State), in Honors program(Finance) with 4.2/4.0 GPA (GS allows to get A+ if you get a 98 or above, so I pulled in a good number of A+s). Also I am a member in finance related club and am planning to join the investment fund management club in the school. Like most of the guys in here, I too want to get into high finance, to learn intricacies of finance world and to eventually start my own gig.

I am planning to graduate in Dec'14, but I am trying to work as an intern in any IB this summer. I am thinking that I probably missed the internship boat already, but nonetheless I will try my best to land one. Currently, I work as a software engineer, but I guess ,to show that I am serious about Finance and IB, I have to start doing something in Finance/IB. ( I have very strong quant/analytical/math based background and also a good software programmer, so I am thinking I will do a great job like any top school guys though I am from a non target school -- I am sorry if this is coming off as boastful. I just don't know how to elevate my strengths and to sell to recruiters).

I will share more information about my background as I ask more specific questions.

I will take any/all the help, guidance, and suggestions from you guys.

Thanks!

Flake:

Define "start my own gig" within the scope finance.

I think OP defining his "own gig" is the least of my worries for this thread... We basically have superman who is brilliant at everything and who wants to get into finance with a 4.2 GPA in Uni.

Before coming in and telling us how great you are, browse this forum about what "high finance" is all about. See what could potentially interest you, and then ask more specific questions. At the moment you only deserve to be flamed.

"I am planning to work as an intern in any IB this summer". Investment banking ranges from the guy who shines your shoes to the BSD trader raking in $20mln a year passing via the analyst spending 200 hours a week on a spreadsheet...
