New Member - Non target school college student

Hello all, I am a student at a non-target school and have been interested in business and finance since I was a kid, hearing my family members discuss the markets, securities products and other regular financial jargon. Now a college student I am still unsure whether or not I could see myself becoming successful on Wall Street. My strongest and most meaningful experience not related to finance has been my time spent growing up and teaching sailing lessons. Finance related, I have participated in a merger and acquisition case competition, pursued multiple leadership opportunities, spearheaded a couple fundraising efforts and joined WSO in an effort to find out what a career on Wall Street is like in today's evolving business/hiring environment. I also worked for a couple weeks at a very small accounting firm in Midtown Manhattan, however I was left with a bad taste in my mouth after this experience. Too small, too slow, not very interesting from my perspective, even after hearing partners speak about their own client facing roles I was pretty sure it wasn't for me. Other than that, I am just here to try and contribute to the conversation, learn as much as possible and maybe even build a few professional relationships. Finally, I love reading about small business and am currently working on a small internet start-up company alongside a few of my peers. Careers in Venture Capital sound intriguing because of how they tie into my own independent interest in new technology and willingness to offer others personal help in most situations. However at this point, my main goal is to learn more about what careers I could see myself successful and happy in and then pursue those opportunities, whatever it takes. I joined Wall Street Oasis...after recommendations from multiple colleagues, all my seniors, who are actively pursuing careers on Wall Street.
