New monkey around- help needed!

I'm a HS senior in Singapore doing the IB Diploma and an aspiring banker in the States. Haven't exactly decided which faculty to enter yet exactly though I'm leaning towards Investment Banking (again, IB!). Been lurking around these forums for a while since it seems to give some great college advice. Although I have a while to decide what exactly I want to do since I have 2 years of mandatory military service in between, I've got a few questions I'd love answered. Thanks in advance!

1) How hard is it, as an international student, to get into a target school in the US? I'm definitely looking at settling down there long term if it makes a difference, but statistics don't seem to be extremely favorable so I thought I'd ask. Looking at schools in colder climates (I have heat induced migraines) so particularly interested in places like IU Bloomington (Kelley) & UofM A2 (Ross) though I'd cede this requirement for a better school.

2) Is there any sort of portfolio I should aim towards getting? Aside from academics and stuff. This has been a constant source of worry since I haven't been a really active person till recently and am trying to get my stuff together since I write my finals in 9 months.

Further information: Academics wise I'm pretty okay. Looking at a 40+ in IB (likely to result in the 42-43 range) and writing my SATs soon, should be able to get a 2250+. Will probably consider doing Math II and a few other subject tests in the future- with our math standards it shouldn't be too bad. I have above average credentials (relative to the rest of my school's student population) in terms of leadership positions and contribution to clubs/societies in the school including Model UN stuff. Also do freelance photography & tutor kids from disadvantaged families & founded my own school support club aimed at helping new students assimilate into the culture. Currently writing my IB Extended Essay in economics and also play violin for a national youth orchestra if it matters. Decent teacher appraisals. I'm generally insecure with my credentials but am not really sure on where to go to further improve my portfolio since I hear it matters a lot particularly for admissions to the states. Sorry for the verbal assault here but all help is greatly appreciated! Looking forward to the day I'll be on this forum giving advice to the 17 year olds.

sorry about that- was curious to hear what people in the field had to say. Comforting to hear I do have a shot so thanks for that (To clarify: UofM A2 Ross in particular). Also curious to hear about how much of a chance I'd have getting into any of the Ivies though, specifically Wharton, Brown and Dartmouth. Would you have any suggestions as to how I could improve my profile? Forgot to mention I did a law internship for 2 months if it counts towards anything. Thanks!

To be honest it's really hard to tell what these top schools want. They ask for diversity but you don't know what it exactly means to them. If you're asian the scene is really competitive and you'll be going against other top students from other asian countries. As long as you're willing to pay and not ask for financial aid you should have a solid chance. Also Wharton is the Business school of University of Pennsylvania which is also an Ivy League school,Dartmouth and Brown are also good schools. As for extracurricular activities, schools want to see dedication to a few activities, activities you have a passion about and not necessarily to fill in your common app.You could also put in your military experience which would be really great.

mmm just wanted to emphasize Penn Wharton and not CAS haha. Thank you so much for the advice! Something I'll work on striving towards for sure. Have a great day and see you around (:
