New monkey from China

Hi everyone. I'm a senior student from Shanghai Tongji Universtiy, China. Really happy to discovered wallstreetoasis providing useful information about IBD, PE,VC and other stuff, because I'm the one who struggle to be a member of the elites in financial industry.

What really makes me upset is everybody around me tell me that the famous global financial institutions like J.P Morgan or Goldman Sachs just recruit students from PKU, THU, FDU and SJTU in mainland China. Does a student who is not from top universities have a chance?

Actually, I was ever an intern in Euromonitor, a London based market research company and now an intern in Booz&Co., but now I find myself much closer to consulting and faraway from finance. I think I went the wrong way before. If I want to turn myself back to finance, what kind of things should I have to prepare? Is a master degree in finance necessary? Thank you for guys answering my question!

I'm not in your position and will never be, but if you plan to work in the United States, I would encourage you to seriously consider studying in the United States. Obtaining interviews for bulge bracket firms is difficult enough for us relatively nearby. Considering the international, political, and economic boundary between Shanghai and NYC, it would seem like there is a move to be made on your behalf.
