New to all this, hoping to get some great insight into the industry
Good morning anyone who actually reads these "introduce yourself" posts!
I'm completely new to everything regarding this industry and am looking to learn a considerable amount and hopefully leverage my skills into a job in this area, because, I may be misguided, but I feel like they are a solid fit.
Currently I'm a student at NC State University for textile engineering with a minor in materials science and a (newly added) minor in business, with 2 years (unfortunately) remaining, despite being a senior.
Before going to school I was an infantry assaultman in the USMC where I had the role of team leader with one combat deployment under my belt before getting out in 2012.
Since then while getting my associates degree I also worked as a theatrical stage manager for the community college theatre, managing all aspects of two productions.
I want to get into finance mainly because it looks like, for lack of a better word, fun. Ever since leaving the military in 2012 I overload myself with work looking to bring back the levels of stress I had on myself in Iraq, the backbreaking hours, the exhaustion, the camaraderie. It's something that is hard to mimic, but something I miss dearly. So there's this finance deal, high stress, high reward, utilizing the people skills I have grown being a team leader and a stage manager while also allowing me to use some of the skillset engineering has given me as far as analysis and calculation are concerned. The whole idea of it just appeals to me.
So that's me, and I'll be happy to hear what any of you have to say.
Thanks!
