New to the forum from California

Hello everyone,

I just graduated from a non-target state school in California, and am currently pursuing a masters in accounting at a target. I am currently in the process of getting my CPA, however I decided to pursue investment banking as opposed to a traditional accounting career. I am currently going to work full time for a boutique in Los Angeles, however I am still in the process of interviewing at a few other firms. I would be happy to answer any questions on accounting, recruiting for banking within a masters program for accounting, the CPA, or anything else anyone might have.

Labanker28 I was curious about a couple things. I will be starting at a big 4 in tax and pursuing the cpa. However I would eventually like to do investment banking . I have a macc also. What are your initial thoughts for obtaining a banking interview?

It really comes down to networking, I had a great GPA and great experience (for accounting) however none of that really helped when it came down to getting interviews. I had to scour LinkedIn and a few other sources to meet people, from there it was possible to get someone to flag my resume for an interview. Its tough though, for about a month of straight networking a couple hours a day I was only able to turn 3 interviews, and one, and I consider my self VERY lucky. If I have any advice its to not rely on online applications, but on meeting people in the field. If you are in a major city (NY, LA, SF, etc.) its definitely easier as you'll likely be working in the same area as a ton of banking professionals. I would try to set up some coffee meetings and work from there.
