New To WSO - Graduated in May with a BA in Finance

Hello everyone!

I just graduated in May with a BA in Finance from a non-target (top 100) with a couple of years of Aerospace Engineering (top 10 engineering) under my belt (only mention it to show that I have a solid math background). Just so you know, I maintained a 3.0 in Engineering, it just wasn't what I wanted to do (looking back I wish I would have stayed because Finance at my school was a joke in terms of difficulty and quality of other students).

Currently I'm working at a service provider company in the back office of the tech department for the past 5 months (still technically considered an intern). I've made connections with people in Risk and Research, but no luck on getting out of my department yet. I really want to get into a buy-side position, but not sure how to progress. Any advice on how to get on the right track would be much appreciated.

Honestly, I do not want to stay in this position anymore. I am here for 8-10 hours a day and am given maybe an hours worth of work on average and I can't take it anymore. I don't want to up and leave my first job so soon, but I don't want to get stuck in the tech side.

Looking forward to getting to be a bigger part of this community.

Search for any questions you have on this site - they are probably already answered. The advice you will likely receive you aren't competetive for buy side right now, so study for the GMAT, get an MBA from a top school (if you can), do the Breaking Into Wallstreet (BIWS) modeling course, and NETWORK. You could also look into Msf programs/CFA. Good luck!!

Thank you for the advice. I realize that I'm not competitive right now, but I will definitely take your advice, continue looking through this site, and fix that problem
