New user, nontarget to BB intern to MSF

Hi everyone,

As an outsider doing everything in my power to break in I have been a reader for years. Finally decided to log on and join the discussion. So here's my story basically..

Non-target (what is a couple steps below non-target?) school in the PNW, started as Physics major but I hated labs so switched to Math Econ and CS. With a couple friends I co-founded a student investment club (as many non-finance school kids do...). Swam for three years and made D3 All american, but quit senior year to focus on investment club. After sophomore year I interned at a tiny wealth management firm in my hometown, nothing special but it was something.

Junior year I was determined to get a BB internship, which was ridiculous because literally no one has heard of my school and we've had maybe 5 alumni go into finance, like, ever. This did not deter me however as I pressed on applying to every summer position on the west coast for each BB firm, usually for both IBD and IMD. I would normally agree that dropping resumes online with zero networking is totally pointless. However, somehow I struck pure luck and got an interview and ultimately summer analyst offer at a BB PWM west coast office. Didn't get an offer and had no luck with full time recruiting in the fall, so I applied to MSFs and got a couple full ride offers. Thank the lord. So now I have bachelors degree in hand, interning at a PE firm for the summer and starting full time recruiting again in the fall, but this time at a school where they actually come on campus. (This still sounds foreign to me).

Cheers.
