Newbie in a Unique Situation

Hey everyone!

I'm new to the website. I've been in the investment industry for 3 years and I am looking for advice on how to break into investment banking. I'm interested in getting career path information on becoming a research analyst. I'm still learning a good deal about various roles in the investment industry. So, please set me straight if I seem to have any misunderstandings.

My current role is as a back-office principal for a small investment adviser that falls under a large credit union's umbrella. We provide support for over 400 investment reps in our network, along with operations and trading services for end clients.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry. The reason I say unique situation is because I work for an adviser that is a subsidiary of a credit union with little-to-zero sales pressure. It's a unique environment because we are probably one of the few investment advisers/brokers that is kind of not-for-profit. FINRA looks at us during audits and doesn't understand. They ask questions that don't really apply to our business model. It's kind of comical.
