WSO New Intern Intro

Hello fellow Monkeys,

I'm a new writing intern for the WSO community.

Here's my background:

I'm a recent graduate from a non-target school in Los Angeles. I had a 3.7 GPA, and I currently have two internships (a money market investment analyst role in a local county, and a remote equity research role in a boutique research firm) besides writing for WSO.

I want to find a full-time position in Equity Research, and I'm working on improving modeling and writing stock reports/theses. I find it difficult to break in given my non-target background and lack of connections, but I'm looking to improve my skillsets and to network my way to getting some interviews. WSO has been a great source of information on how to do those things.

However, I do have a question:
Could you guys give me some advice on how to effectively network with professionals who are on the East Coast? Thanks!

Good luck.

Find a connection, no matter how remote and pick up the phone. In my opinion, you're not really networking, you're just selling yourself...either to them or to someone they know. It's really only networking if you can offer them something in return. If you can do that, even better.

Thanks SirTradesaLot! I dont' think I'm in a position to offer anything back (unless a promise of future performance counts hah), so I'll be focusing on finding ways to sell myself.

By the way your Q&A interview was very insightful. I'm glad that I read it as it reaffirms my decision to go into this field.
