There are personal days for this cause, almost every employer I worked for had this.
Sorry to hear about your grandmother and I’m sad that this even needs to be asked as a question. Please go to the funeral if and when it happens. You are an intern and won’t be needed to such an extent that the world would fall apart should you not be there. Anyone that says otherwise can do one.

Buddy, seriously, your family is much more important than the job. Trust me. I was a senior associate (back then) who flew back home (12+ hour flight) to be with his grandpa for a week (as he was hopsitalised). I left (back to London for a conference / a fight) then he passed 2 days after I landed in London.
Do I regret not staying? Not really because at that point, he was already pass the point of no return but I still wish I was there.
People will understand, If they don't, are they really people you want to be working with?
My md missed his father and sisters funeral for work, also two of his grandparents.
