1st IB paycheck… car purchase…

I’m not a cultured person in high finance or luxury items but I am obsessed with the new 23 prius. I have a decent 50 mi commute to work every day and I think its a clean car and worthy of its $30K price point. Thoughts on this as my first big purchase?

Personal preference but I’d personally seek a more exciting car than a Prius.

Then again, you are “obsessed” with it and it’s only 30k so I don’t think it would be a bad idea.

I think you should consider Acura too as a bit of a cooler car.

Lots of cars cooler than acura, only the NSX is a good pick. Imo the alternatives to Acura's cars are better, but that's just my personal preference.

50mi seems like a long way. Why don't you move closer? It is 100mi roundtrip or 50mi roundtrip?

Is prius birth control?

This of course would depend on what kind of cars you'd like, but the new prius is a pretty economical car and not super insane MSRP-wise, so as far as new cars go it's probably one of the safer choices you can make. Hybrids save quite a bit of gas, and if you like the car, it seems like a good move. Still take a look around for options, like if you're a big car guy maybe the prius won't be the most exciting thing to drive, but since everyone has a different set of priorities it might be the right car for you.

The new Prius looks a lot nicer than previous generations for sure, I quite like the look of it.

Prius is def a prestigious car. It is competitive and is climbing the league tables competing with the big guys (think Honda Accord, Nissan Versa, and Ford Focus)
