I just realised today is the last day for making ticket applications for the 2012 games for EU members. I'm not the biggest fan of the Olympics, but I can't say that I'll ever be living in the same city as the Olympics again.
What is everyone applying for?

Are there any other events that would be good to see?
I've got to say the Olympics have lost a lot of its luster for me. It was really cool when I was really into nationalism, though. If I were to go see something I'd say it would have to be basketball.

you mean soccer, they don't play football in the olympics
No, I mean association rules football. They don't play american football anywhere last I checked

I was at the 2008 beijing games and had a blast at some of the "lesser" events in addition to the usual suspects (men's basketball, track and field, etc.). I would highly suggest checking out swimming and gymnastics, the atmosphere was INCREDIBLE. I would argue that these events garner more attention/scrutiny than basketball/soccer in the Olympics in very much the same way as the US catching World Cup fever this last summer (ie: not exciting enough to be viewed consistently every year but awesome every four years). Also if you happen to get your hands on some tickets, I'd also recommend field hockey and ping pong-- both are super legit in person.
